WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STANDARD HYGIENE APPOINTMENT & AIRFLOW DENTAL HYGIENE?

Both appointments are highly beneficial to your teeth and maintaining  gum health to prevent gum disease and tooth loss. Airflow dental hygiene uses the newer technology of guided biofilm therapy. In simpler terms Airflow dental hygiene you see a naturally whiter smile, it is more effective at killing harmful bacteria in the mouth and is more comfortable due to warm water being used to prevent sensitivity. Most patients say it is the best hygiene appointment they have ever experienced. For more in depth detail please see below.

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is an advanced, gentle, and highly effective treatment used in dental hygiene to remove biofilm (the sticky, bacterial plaque) from the teeth and gums. Unlike traditional cleaning methods, GBT combines modern technology with precise techniques to ensure a more comfortable, thorough, and precise cleaning experience.

How GBT Works:

  1. Initial Assessment: The process starts with a detailed assessment of the patient’s oral health, which includes identifying the presence of biofilm and any areas of concern.

  2. Application of Airflow Technology: Using an Airflow® device, a gentle stream of air, water, and a fine powder (often erythritol or sodium bicarbonate) is directed onto the teeth and gums. This combination effectively breaks down and removes the biofilm without harming the enamel or soft tissues.

  3. Gentle Cleaning: The powder used in GBT is specifically designed to be non-abrasive and gentle on the tooth surface, making it suitable for individuals with sensitive teeth, implants, or restorations. The treatment can be used on hard-to-reach areas such as around braces or dental implants. The water used is also warmed to prevent discomfort or sensitivity you may experience with standard dental hygiene.

  4. Polishing and Protection: After biofilm removal, teeth are polished, and the gums may be treated with a special gel to help reduce inflammation and promote healing. The overall process is designed to maintain or restore oral health while minimizing discomfort.

Benefits of Guided Biofilm Therapy:

  • Effective and Precise: GBT targets and removes biofilm, which is the primary cause of plaque buildup, gum disease, and cavities.

  • Non-invasive and Pain-Free: The treatment is much gentler compared to traditional scaling and scraping techniques, making it ideal for patients with sensitive teeth or gums.

  • Prevention-Focused: By regularly removing biofilm, GBT helps prevent gum disease, cavities, and bad breath, contributing to long-term oral health.

  • Safe for All Patients: It can be safely used on patients with braces, implants, crowns, and other dental work, as it is non-abrasive and won’t damage restorations.

  • Minimal Discomfort: Since the procedure is less invasive and doesn’t require manual scraping or the use of ultrasonic tools, patients often experience less discomfort and a faster recovery time.

Overall, Guided Biofilm Therapy is becoming an increasingly popular choice in dental care due to its efficiency, comfort, and focus on preventing dental issues rather than just treating them.

INVISALIGN

We straighten, you smile.

At your new patient examination a thorough intra oral scan using our state of the art technology will be completed to start the Invisalign process. At this stage your dentist can show you a AI generated simulation of how your teeth may look with having Invisalign.

If you like what you see and would like to proceed, your dentist will create your bespoke treatment plan with Invisalign called a Clincheck- this will be ready for you to view within 2 weeks of your new patient examination appointment. Your package cost will be confirmed with your Clincheck.

Once you are happy with the proposed plan your aligners will arrive in clinic approximately 2 weeks later for fitting, we then see you every few weeks (case dependant) to give you your next aligners. Change your aligners every 1 - 2  weeks and discretely move your teeth into your dream smile.

Treatment on average takes 6 months but this is patient dependent and depends on the complexity of the case. This will be confirmed with your Clincheck.

Simply wear your aligners every day, except when eating/drinking and see your dream smile come to life with our almost invisible aligners, removing the traditional train track look. The best bit about it? Your teeth are then set for life, no repeat treatment needed, pending suitable retainers which are included in all of our packages.

INVISALIGN PACKAGES FROM £2999 - SAVE UP TO £778!

All our Invisalign packages include;

  1. Aligners during Invisalign treatment and one refinement before expiry

  2. Two Airflow hygiene appointments. One prior to starting your Invisalign treatment and once complete for optimal results

  3. Bonded retainer upper and lower so your teeth are held in place without you having to do a thing

  4. 2 x removal retainers for extra peace of mind

  5. Free tooth whitening worth £329

  6. Free tooth contouring save £199

Please note each Invisalign case is patient dependent and your dentist will confirm if you’re suitable. Your Invisalign package cost will be confirmed by your dentist with your Clincheck.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INVISALIGN

Is Invisalign better than braces?

This depends on the patients tooth positioning. In some complex cases, Invisalign is unable to help, however Invisalign offers advanced technology developed and trialled over 18 million patients worldwide. Invisalign uses 3D visual interface letting your Invisalign Doctor customise your treatment, tailoring your results to your desired outcome and allowing us to move each tooth in the right order at the right time. The state of the art software allows us to calculate the right amount of force for every tooth movement.

The main benefit of Invisalign is the speed of which it works and the fact it is almost invisible in comparison to traditional train tracks. Danica has had both treatments. It is important to understand with Invisalign we can cosmetically significantly improve your smile but we may not be able to achieve 100% perfection, however if you would like a quicker treatment plan that is less visible this is the perfect solution for you.

Does Invisalign hurt?

With any form of orthodontic treatment, your teeth can be tender when aligners are changed or bands/wires changed if you're in fixed braces. This is because the treatment is doing what it is meant to and is moving your teeth. From Danica's personal experience, the first week is the worst, your teeth are particularly tender and it is an adjustment getting used to something foreign in your mouth. That being said, after sticking to softer foods for the first few days to be kind to my teeth, the discomfort subsides and it feels more normal. We advise mild to minimal discomfort is experienced during Invisalign treatment.

Is Invisalign worth it?

We have never had a patient regret having treatment. Patients are usually going through treatment because they are conscious of their smile. With our Invisalign packages, once completed and they have straight teeth, we offer free tooth whitening and tooth contouring (polishing) to make subtle shape changes and lighten their shade for the finishing touch. The benefit of Invisalign over composite bonding for example, is it is done for life. Pending you wear your retainers, you will not require repeat treatment, whereas composite bonding, it does require replacing every 5-10 years. With Invisalign it also improves your bite, resulting less teeth being overloading and improving the longevity of your other teeth. If you are conscious of your smile, would like straighter whiter teeth that helps with your confidence and function, yes it is worth it.

How does Invisalign work?

First you have a New Patient consultation £120 with our dentist to confirm you're suitable and dentally fit. If you require essential dentistry such as fillings, we have to complete this prior to treatment by law. We then carry out a state of the art scan of your teeth that is pain free, no moulds everyone dreads, then in a few minutes it will show what your end result could look like after treatment. If you wish to proceed we then submit your scan and a Clincheck will be prepared in approximately 2-3 weeks. This is a more accurate simulation of how your teeth will move and what your end result will look like after you have finished your aligners. You wear each aligner for approximately a week but your dentist will advise you specifically. You should only take your aligners out to eat and drink and keep them in for at least 22 hours of the day. Once happy with your Clincheck (what your end result will look like) we sort payment and your aligners are usually delivered in 10-14 days. You then have your fit appointment and attend to see the dentist every 4-8 weeks on average for us to give you new aligners and monitor your treatment. Once finished we then carry out your whitening and you have aligners to hold your teeth in place. We also include the option of fixed retainers if you would like them at no additional cost.

What does Invisalign look like?

It is a clear thin aligner, almost like a very thin gum shield that fits tightly over your teeth as seen here. Some patients have attachments, which is small pieces of tooth coloured filling temporarily stuck to the tooth, to aid tooth movement. This vary per patient and are polished off once complete. It does not harm your tooth in any way. You can see exactly where your attachments will be when viewing your clincheck. Invisalign looks like a clear, shiny layer over your teeth, patients are surprised how thin they are and how quickly you get used to them.

How do I choose where to have Invisalign?

This is down to where you feel most comfortable. Our clinic has a spa/hotel like feel which patients say is one of their favourite aspects, particularly those that are nervous. It relaxes you where it doesn't feel so clinical and helps make the visit to the dentist more enjoyable. Invisalign is one of our most popular treatments and something we carry out day in day out, so you're in safe and experienced hands. We offer various different types of payment options, including 0% finance options and up to 5 years with a small interest rate if you want to spread the cost over a longer period of time, this enables us to accommodate all budget types.

Why is Invisalign so expensive?

Invisalign can be more expensive than traditional braces because of the advanced technology and custom-made aligners used in the treatment which effectively moves the teeth whilst being very discrete. Train tracks are a lot cheaper to purchase for the dental clinic.  Although treatment is usually quicker, you can spend more time with the dentist which increases the treatment cost. A lot of patients are actually surprised how affordable Invisalign is with our average patient approximately £3000-£4000. This also includes free whitening and tooth contouring to perfect your smile for less. The more complex the case, the more expensive the treatment for both train tracks and Invisalign. If you would like a cheaper option, but don't mind if it isn't discrete, train tracks or fixed braces may be a better option for you.

Why Invisalign over other clear braces?

Invisalign is often preferred over other clear braces due to its advanced technology, which includes a proprietary material called SmartTrack that provides better comfort and more predictable tooth movement, a detailed digital treatment plan that allows patients to see their projected results beforehand, and a reputation for proven effectiveness and clinical research backing its efficacy, making it considered a more reliable option for achieving desired results compared to other clear aligner systems.

Key points about Invisalign's advantages over other clear braces:

  • Superior technology: Invisalign utilizes sophisticated 3D imaging and software to create highly customized aligners, ensuring precise tooth movement and better treatment outcomes.

  • Comfort and fit: The SmartTrack material used in Invisalign aligners is designed to be more comfortable and provide consistent force throughout treatment.

  • Discreet appearance: Invisalign aligners are considered virtually invisible due to their clear, thin design.

  • Removable for eating and cleaning: Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating and oral hygiene, making it easier to maintain dental care.

  • Treatment planning visibility: Patients can preview their projected treatment outcome using a digital simulation before starting treatment, allowing them to understand the expected results

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Do you have missing teeth you would like to replace? Have you been considering dental implants but you're not sure where to go or are worried about the cost? Or maybe a bridge or denture you would like to get rid of.

A dental implant is a titanium or ceramic post (like a tooth root) that is surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gum line. After it is left to heal, the dentist can then attach a replacement tooth or teeth onto the dental implant. An implant doesn’t come loose like a denture can; it acts like a natural tooth root and integrates with your bone. Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges. This means that they are not destructive of your other teeth and, with a 98% success rate, are an excellent choice for maintaining a natural smile. They can replace single teeth or a whole arch using single or multiple dental implants. A lot of patients find is a lot more comfortable than expected with patients being able to return to work the next day following their dental implant placement.

Due to demand we have brought one of the best implantologists in the industry to you.

We welcome Dr Phil McCauley. Danica & Phil worked together previously in the private dental sector, for all our dental implant treatments.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS

Are dental implants painful?

Although often patients find it surprising, no. We numb the area using anaesthetic, similarly to if we were carrying out a filling. After a few minutes of discomfort for us to numb you up, the procedure itself is pain free. If we lied to you and said we were doing a filling, other than being gowned up to ensure we're sterile, you wouldn't know the difference. Majority of patients do not experience pain after treatment, although some minor discomfort may be experienced, over the counter pain relief is sufficient to reduce this. For more complex cases such as teeth in a day, you may have some swelling and discomfort for 2-3 days after treatment. The majority of patients are very pleasantly surprised how easy dental implant can be, but to be on the safe side we say to expect some minor discomfort and swelling, just in case.

Are dental implants safe?

Yes. The main risks are implant failure or nerve damage. Nerve damage occurs when the nerve is hit when drilling into the bone and damage occurs. This often isn't reversible. We carry out a 3d CT scan of your teeth prior to treatment, which shows exact locations of nerves and your bone levels to the mm to accurately allow us to treatment plan for your bone levels and nerve locations. Implants come in various different widths and lengths to ensure we can place the most suitable implant for you without the risk of nerve damage. Of all our patients who have had dental implants, we are yet to have any experience nerve damage.

Implant failure is currently 1.08%. Failure is more common in heavy smokers as it can impact the healing process. If your implant we're to fail, we would remove it, allow the site to heal and replace it free of charge. We check your implant has integrated into the bone and healed

Are dental implants worth it?

It depends on what your desired outcome is for having dental implants. If you have a denture you would like to get rid of to improve your function and no longer require a denture yes. If you having missing teeth you're self conscious of or that impacts your eating and diet yes, if your teeth are failing and you are going to have multiple gaps yes. Some patients however don't mind having a gap, denture or a bridge. Both a denture and bridge will likely need replacing over time, but is a cheaper treatment option initially. Dental implants, once placed and if well maintained (regular check up sand hygiene like normal teeth), should last your life time, so although are more costly, are a more long term investment.

Dental implants literally change peoples lives. The amount of patients who have had to learn how to smile again because they have been so self conscious for so many years or patients who haven't eaten an apple or steak for as long as they can remember, these are the patients dental implants are hugely beneficial for. Even single teeth implants are a good option as a bridge involves filing the teeth either side or a maryland (butterfly) bridge that doesn't file the teeth either side but is glued in and can have a tendency to come out. You can not treat a gap of course but that can result in other teeth being over loading and reducing their long term prognosis.

Can dental implants be removed?

You would not remove a dental implant unless essential, which is very unusual unless it is failing. Once integrated into the bone in the initial few months of being placed, it is then usually there for life. The crown/bridge/denture on top can be removed. A denture can be removed by the patient at home for cleaning and clipped back in. A bridge and crown and only be removed by your dental professional and has no reason to be removed unless there was a complication. It is designed to be fixed long term.

How do dental implants work?

Think of a dental implant as a raw plug that is screwed into the bone, the bone then grows into the thread of the implant holding it in place. An abutment is then screwed into the implant that the crown or bridge is glued or screw retained onto. If you have a denture it clips into place similarly to a very strong popper. Crowns and bridges are permanent fixed options, a denture is removable, although has significantly more retention than a standard denture, no denture fix would be required.

How long do dental implants last?

They should last you lifetime pending correct care. You will still need to brush your teeth and implants daily as if they were normal teeth. You will require regular check ups and hygiene appointments to ensure good gum health to aid longevity of your implants. We do offer a life time guarantee for our dental implants. Your life time can impact your implants, for example heavy smokers have a higher failure rate than no smokers.

What are dental implants made of?

Titanium, we do have a ceramic alternative available if the patient prefers, but as standard titanium is used.

What dental implant is best?

This is a tricky question. Every brand is slightly different but they are all generally quite similar. We use Neodent and have done for over 7 years, Phil, our Implantologist, has placed over 3000 implants with Neodent, and has currently placed the most in the UK. He has over a 98% success rate with the system. It is more recommended to choose the right dental implantologist for you, rather than the system, they will have a system they are experienced with and confident in.

Why are dental implants expensive?

Dental implants are more costly due to the surgical procedure required, the time in surgery and the longevity of the treatment. You generally pay more for implants than a bridge for example, however a bridge will need replacing multiple times in your life time, implants don't. If you're happy to pay a cheaper treatment fee but accept you will need to have repeat treatment a bridge or denture is a good option, if you prefer treatment once and not need to repeat it, it is advised you opt for dental implants, pay more initially but don't require repeat treatment long term.

What's the difference between an implant retained crown, bridge and denture?

An implant retained denture is a denture that is removable, the same as a standard denture, however it clips into your implants so you get a lot better fit and retention than a standard denture so denture fix isn't required. It is still a removable option.

An implant retained crown is glued onto an abutment (screw) that goes into the implant to replace a single tooth. It is not removable by the patients.

An implant retained bridge replaces multiple missing teeth and is screwed into your implants. Your dentist can remove the bridge if required, but it is a fixed replacement of multiple teeth for patients who don't want removable teeth. Implant retained bridge and crowns are more common than implant retained dentures. Implant retained dentures are cheaper for full mouth replacement but  don't give you as good function as a implant retained bridge will.
